21 Things I’m Loving In 2017

I can’t believe we’re at the end of quarter one already – 2017, slow down, please. For this post, I was inspired by my friend Nicole’s recent post about 21 things she has learned in 21 years. Inspiration also came from my friend Adelaide’s posts about her favourite things. That is how we arrived at this delightful mash-up of a post.

Here are 21 things I’m loving in 2017:

1. New mentoring program in the works

Both blogging champions (Adelaide and Nicole) I mentioned earlier are beta members of my soon-to-be-released mentoring program – ‘Change-Makers’. It’s a like-minded community of millennials with a desire to improve themselves and the world using platforms like social media, blogging, vlogging and creating content.

On that note, Adelaide created a video from our first dinner party mastermind and I’m obsessed with it. She’s so down-to-earth and relatable. I’ve watched it 4 times already.

2. Cacao smoothie bowls

Every morning, I start my day with either a cacao smoothie or cooked oats. Check out my Instagram stories for proof haha. I normally can’t be f’d and just get my cacao powder from Woolies but there is an awesome version by Food Matters that is made from sustainably-farmed superfoods so it’s way better for you and the environment. Win-win!

3. Meditation

I’ve been meditating for 10 minutes each day consistently. Usually on my lunch break but sometimes before bed. My friend, Hunter , told me he meditates as soon as he wakes up so he has no excuses. He’s now managed 46 days straight so it works!

I use my own mindset meditations which you’ll find here, Youtube videos like these from Abraham Hicks, Headspace or I just sit in silence. It depends how I’m feeling but overall, meditation gives me good vibes.

4. Himalayan salt lamps

I use my little lamp every evening as a reading light. It gives off a soft, red glow which is perfect for those night-time vibes. You see, blue light from your phone, computer screen, laptop, TV or light globe can make it harder for you to get to sleep. I used to struggle to get to sleep but just thought it was because I couldn’t turn my brain ‘off’. But I think it had a lot to do with the bright light I was exposing myself to late at night. That’s why I love being lulled to sleep now by creating the perfect environment with my salt lamp.

Doug and I also have plans to invest in more so we can put one in the bathroom and another on the other side of our bed. Salt lamps for everyone haha!

5. Philips wake-up light

I want one of these. So bad. A wake-up light is next on my to-buy list.

Instead of an annoying alarm, it gradually brightens your room like a sunrise to wake you up in the morning. I hate being jolted awake in the AM and dread the sound of my alarm so this would be the perfect solution. More expensive than your average alarm clock but worth it.

6. Candles

Candles are a staple in our apartment. We don’t often use the lights – when we do it’s either the 25W lamp in our lounge room or the oven light in our kitchen. After dusk, we prefer to light our apartment with candles. Not only do candles create all the ambience you’ll ever need, many are scented and can serve as a form of aromatherapy as well. Quality counts when it comes to candles and you can grab some of my favourites here from Vanessa Megan.

7. The Power of Now

I’m currently reading the best-selling book ‘The Power Of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle. He’s bringing me right into the now and teaching me about the wonders of the present moment. This has been on my must-buy personal development book list for a while and I’m so glad I finally committed to buying it a couple of weekends ago in Bowral. Most of the time I buy my books online. Though, every now and then it’s fun to go to a bookshop then it’s nice to look at a book and remember where you were when you bought it.

8. Making money from a blog that I love to run

It never ceases to amaze me that I can actually make money from my blog. Every time I get an email notifying me of a sale, it makes me so happy. I want other people to know that it is possible for them too and it is nowhere near as difficult as people make it out to be. I laid it all out in my ebook, ‘How To Start A Blog In 7 Days (That Profits Fast)’ which you can grab here. If a struggling uni student from Wollongong can do it, you can too.

9. My juicer

I love my juicer because I can jam-pack my day with fruit and vegetables really easily. I can put 3 carrots, a lemon and some ginger into one juice and soak up all the nutrients within 20 minutes. Whereas I probably wouldn’t sit there munching on them otherwise. The juicer I own is a Hurom, you can read all about why that’s the best juicer for the price here. But basically, it gets maximum nutrients out of the juice with minimum oxidation and is the best option other than buying a $4000 cold-pressed juicer.

10. Manifestation and the Law of Attraction

I’ve been learning heaps more about the Law of Attraction and manifestation from people like Cornelia Grimsmo, Cartia Mallan and Denise Duffield-Thomas. It’s basically a framework for setting goals and bringing more abundance into your life. It works – I did a free ‘Manifest Free Money’ course with Denise and had $200 show up in my PayPal account the next day. It made no sense but all the sense at the same time. Try it out here, you literally have nothing to lose.

11. Kindle

I’ve always been a hardcopy book kind of gal but after accidentally purchasing a hardcopy book as a soft copy the other day – I see the benefits of reading digitally. It’s easier to carry your phone then a hardcopy book in your bag, you always have access to your books on-the-go and it’s better for the environment. If you’ve never tried it (like I hadn’t) then you can give it a go here. Kindle offers a 30-day free trial so give it a go and let me know what you think.

12. Airbnb

Douglas and I are heading to Twin Waters in Queensland for a friend’s wedding at Easter time. We did a bit of Airbnb hunting and found an epic place only a 5-min drive away from the wedding. We’ll have access to our own retreat right next to a golf course and it was half the price of all the hotels. We also Airbnb’d our way across the UK and stayed in some awesome locations. You can book a room in someone’s house, a granny flat or even the entire place. We’ve tried all options and loved every experience.

13. Indoor plants

Doug and I have just moved into a new apartment together and we’re having so much fun decorating. We’ve gone for a minimalist-industrial-homey vibe using black, white, golds and green. By green, I mean plants, lots and lots of plants. Plants bring all the good vibes and clean air. We’ve made a rule that every time we go to Bunnings we must also buy a plant. So far we have 8 plants – 3 on the balcony, 1 on the dining table, 1 in the entry, 1 in the kitchen, 1 on the shelf and 1 in the bathroom. Heads up – these are the four best clean air plants for your home.

14. Organic make-up

With the inspiration of Emmily Banks from Depths of Beauty, I’m aiming for organic, cruelty-free and eco-friendly make-up whenever possible. All of my products do not currently hit the mark but these are my current favourites. In the mornings, I use Weleda Skin Food to moisturise the dry areas. In the shower, I use an Edible Beauty Cleanser. But my everyday go-to is the La Mav Organic BB Crème in light and Inika Baked Mineral Bronzer. I also use the Hanako spray to spritz myself with essential oils and positivity whenever I need it. I might save organic make-up for a write-up in a blog post of its own.

15. Netflix

Whenever I need a moment to relax or get some downtime, I turn to Netflix . I enjoy watching documentaries and Netflix Originals but my favourite show currently is Riverdale. Have you seen it? Let’s discuss in the comments haha.

16. Vlogging on Youtube

My other go-to when I have a spare minute is Youtube. I currently like watching awesome people like Cornelia, Cartia, Dansvibes and Sam Evans.

I also like creating and sharing my own videos from my life and learnings. From April 1, I’ll be creating a video blog and uploading it to Youtube every day for two weeks. I’ll be using my Samsung Galaxy smartphone and a Canon 60D for vlogging but I really want to get a Canon G7 X to step up my vlogging game (if you want to see quality – that’s what Adelaide is using in the video at the top and it’s just way more portable). 17. Audible

I’m also loving listening to books when I’m on-the-go so I’ve got a free 30-day trial with Audible. You get a free audiobook when you sign up. So if nothing else, it’s a pretty awesome way to get a free book. If you’re into books or want a productive way to spend your commute, give it a try. There’s an offer at the moment to try Audible and get two free audiobooks so I’d jump on it now.

18. Uber coming to Wollongong

I was pretty excited about the fact that when Doug and I go to Queensland we’ll be able to get an Uber down the road to meet up with everyone each day for less than $10. I was a bit worried when I saw there was limited public transport but Uber saved the day. I’ve had personal experience with Uber as a brand when I helped with an Instagram campaign and loved the whole experience. That’s why I’m pumped that Uber has landed in Wollongong.

19. GooBang Doo

Pardon? Yep, we got this new thing called a GooBang Doo! Doug and I have just set this up and we’re excited to use it (still waiting on a part). GooBang Doo is basically a way to watch any TV show or any movie ever. I don’t know how it works, Doug is setting it up and I’m just going with it. But it’s epic, if you ask me. I’ll keep you updated using Instagram stories.

20. Instagram Stories

Which reminds me, another thing I’m loving right now is Instagram Stories. I post on there multiple times a day and keep you updated with what I’m doing, who I’m with and all the adventures of life. That includes days at home watching Netflix or other days out exploring new places. I’ve just reached 4200 followers and am aiming for 10K by the end of 2017. Want to help me out by following too? 21. Dinner parties and connecting in real-life

I’m loving hosting dinner parties and connecting with people in real-life now that we have our apartment and thus an awesome space to entertain. There is something to be said about connecting with like-minded people over delicious food and wine.
