Benefits Of Brain Hydration:
Research has shown that students who bring a bottle of water in to their exams outperform students who don’t! Water is essential for the functioning of our cells and guess what our brain is made up of? Millions of cells! The brain also needs a lot of oxygen to function optimally and drinking water ensures your brain receives all that it needs.
Growing up, I was always told to drink eight glasses of water a day. That seems like a lot but this includes fluid from liquids such as tea or soup. My advice would be to drink as much as you feel your body requires.
By the time our bodies let us know that they need water we are already dangerously dehydrated. So can drinking water make you smarter? Well, even 1% dehydration can lead to a 10% decrease in cognitive function (UK ‘Water is Cool in School’ campaign). The human body can last weeks without food but only days without water.
In addition to helping your brain, this cleansing fluid has the ability to regulate temperature, carry nutrients, increase your energy levels, keep your skin looking amazing and can promote weight loss by removing fat and waste. I hear so many of my friends say that they would rather not drink water for fear of not finding a bathroom. The benefits of drinking water far outweigh the chance of having to wait till you get home to use the bathroom.
The secret to staying hydrated is to keep a bottle of water on you all the time. I keep one on my desk at work, one in my bag and one next to my bed.
What are your tips for keeping hydrated? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
