1. Select epic goals for 2017

To have a fulfilling 2017, it’s an awesome idea to have an idea of your big plans. Grab a pen and some paper (or a whiteboard if you want to go all out like I did) and brainstorm what would make this an awesome year for you!

Think about goals for all different areas of your life including personal, work, health, relationships, spiritual and lifestyle.

To get you started, here are some of my goals to make 2017 epic:

  • Host dinner parties
  • Weekly vlog post on AnnaJohnsonHill.com
  • Dive in the ocean every week
  • Learn to surf and skate
  • Practice French with friends
  • Go away with Douglas for a short trip every 3 months
  • Facebook Live once a week
  • Move to a new apartment overlooking the ocean
  • Hold some in-person, one-day retreats at my new place
  • Do yoga every week
  • Go on a roadtrip with some girlfriends
  • Collaborate on Youtube with other awesome peeps
  • Go to a new country
  • Fortnightly love letters to the Work-Life Balance Warrior tribe (that’s you! Or if it’s not then you can join us here)
  • Bring more humour into my writing

2. Show up consistently

These goals aren’t going to achieve themselves. You need to put a bit of oomph into them. Yes, even when you don’t feel like it.

I usually start off well, lose motivation halfway through and then pretend the goal never existed. That’s not going to make for a fulfilling year. This year is going to be awesome – I can feel it.

We all have days where we don’t feel like it. So don’t beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. We all do at some point. Just get back to it the next day and then you’re all good.

By showing up consistently, you’ll train yourself to know when it’s time to switch on and get things done. Your consistency will be rewarded tenfold.

3. Say no

You won’t be able to do everything and please everyone. Committing to your goals means that you’ll need to spend a lot of time working on them at the expense of some other things that you may have said yes to in the past.

Of course, you can say yes if it something that furthers one of your goals, will make you feel good or you would really like it.

But for those times where you wish you could say no but don’t know how to without sounding rude, I have the perfect solution for you. I have created a ‘Say No Nicely’ Resource Guide which you can grab here.

In this guide, I run through some done-for-you scripts to gently decline common questions (that will take more time than you think and distract you from your goals) such as:

+ Can you help me with X?

+ We haven’t seen each other in forever! Playdate?

+ Can we meet-up so I can pick your brain about X?

+ Do you want to come to X with me?

+ Plus, 6 other common time-consumers

4. Prioritise

One of the best things I’ve started doing in 2017 is choosing three priorities for each day. Prior to this, I would work from a never-ending to-do list. It felt like I’d tick a couple things off each day and add ten more so I always felt like I was behind.

So it turns out that the magic number is three. Three is much less overwhelming and a perfect number of tasks to get through in our 15 waking hours (PS – yes, that’s right, I need 9 hours of shut-eye a night to be a decent human being).

So I set my three priorities the night before using a to-do list template on Google Sheets. My three priorities for today were:

+ Send draft proposal to my PhD supervisor

+ Write 3 blog posts

+ Finish Module 1 of Alice Nicholl’s Blog To Profit eCourse

Sometimes it’s tempting to set more than three. But remember, the purpose is to prioritise and ensure you feel fulfilled at the end of the day. If you can get that sense of fulfilment out of every day then you’re on-track for a fulfilling 2017.

So they are my four tips to make 2017 your most fulfilling year ever.

Which tip will you action today?

Write your commitment in the comments below. I’d love to hear which one resonated with you!
